The Pinello Experience
Pinello is a Mediterranean restaurant located in the heart of Brighton that offers a wide range of dishes, including locally sourced fish and shellfish, gourmet pizzas, Italian pastas, and locally sourced meats. The restaurant prides itself on using locally sourced, sustainable ingredients to create mouth-watering dishes.
In addition to its delicious cuisine, Pinello also boasts spectacular seafront views of Brighton and the iconic West Pier ruins. The restaurant has been a family-owned business for over 40 years and has a fascinating history. The site was once home to The Pandora Gallery, the first cinema to show films outside of London.
Brighton has a significant role to play in the history and culture of the film industry, and Pinello’s location is an essential part of this history. In 1896, Brighton became the first town outside of London to host a public film exhibition in Britain. The Parisian brothers August and Louis Lumiere showcased a series of short films, marking the birth of cinema in Brighton.
The Pandora Gallery was renamed the Victoria Hall on 1st July 1896 and began showing regular screenings to the paying public. This event marked the beginning of a long and illustrious history of filmmaking in Brighton. The British Film Institute (BFI) recognised this historic landmark by awarding The Melrose Restaurant, now Pinello, a BFI Plaque commemorating the fact that the first film was shown to the paying public on this site in 1896.
